Social Media Reacts To The 1-Year-Anniversary of Chloe Bailey’s Debut Solo Single ‘Have Mercy’


Lawd, Have Mercy! Fans on social media are deeming September 10 as a new holiday. It was a year ago today when, Chloe Bailey shook up the internet when she dropped her long-awaited solo single, ‘Have Mercy’.

As a result to the internet hype, the song debuted at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 13 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The video released on YouTube the same day and racked up 4.7 million views in the first 24 hours. A year later the video sits at 78 million views.

But let’s rewind…

The TikTok Heard Around The World

On July 1, 2021, Chloe Bailey dropped a TikTok on her birthday that had the internet in a frenzy. It was a snippet of the song ‘Have Mercy” with the caption that read: “this is 23… HAVE MERCY COMING SOON ???”  This is currently her highest viewed TikTok at 20.8 Million.

Fans took their excitement to Twitter as they waited and anticipated the release date of the new single.

One thing about Chloe and Halle is they are going to ride and support each other, just as sisters do!

The ‘Have Mercy’ Performances ATE Every time

Chloe hit the MTV Video Music Awards stage to perform her new single just two days after its release. She went on to perform the song at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in Oct and American Music Awards in November.

Although, the single didn’t receive any awards, ‘Have Mercy’ was nominated in 2022 at the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album and Outstanding Soul/R&B Song. As well as Video of the Year at the 2022 BET Awards & Best R&B Song at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.

And In Case You Thought So… She Is Not Done Yet

Since the release of ‘Have Mercy” Chlöe continues to give us countless bops such as: ’Treat Me’ and ’Surprise’. Fans are practically begging for an album after Chloe took to IG with 4 different singles for listeners to take their pick.

Lastly, despite some of the negative comments she receives, Chloe continues to rise above the hate and shed light on the pressures social media has on her generation. In an interview on Hot 97, she says social media

“is affecting us as a generation because we are constantly comparing someone else best version to themselves online to the worst version of ourselves” she continues “we are all going through sh— and we just have to be open about it so none of us feel alone at the end of the day”
